Colds in babies: learn how to prevent and relieve symptoms

Even if it's not a serious illness, the cold causes a lot of discomfort in babies, especially for newborns.

The common cold is an infection of the respiratory tract that is caused by various types of viruses, such as

rhinovirus, adenovirus, and others.

Droplets of saliva released when someone sneezes are the most common way a cold is spread. That's

because someone else ends up aspirating these droplets that stay in the air.

For parents, it is not easy to see their baby having difficulty breathing, eating and even sleeping, which

causes sleepless nights for the whole family.

Pediatrician Tatiana Keller, who works at the units in Anchieta, Nova Iguaçu and Nilópolis, explains the

main symptoms of the cold in babies.

“In babies younger than 3 months, any fever or sign that the baby is not well should be evaluated soon,

even before 24 hours. Babies up to 1 year old who have difficulty breathing, green phlegm, persistent

cough or tiredness, must go through an emergency service, for clinical evaluation or even at the assistant

pediatrician. ” Informs the pediatrician.

Care to prevent the baby from the cold

  • Keep the baby away from sick people

  •  Ask family members and close people to wash their hands well before picking up baby

  •  Keep baby's hands clean.

Remember, breast milk is an important ally for your baby's health, because through it the baby receives

the mother's antibodies.

Baby relieving cold symptoms

It is important for the mother to know that colds in babies are common, especially in the first year of life.

However, it is important to know that there are several diseases with cold-like symptoms, such as the flu.

That is why medical follow-up is important, since, in the case of the flu, it can evolve into something more

serious, such as pneumonia, sinusitis, encephalitis or myocarditis.

Always be aware of your baby's health and regularly follow up with a pediatrician at the Camim closest
