Sinusitis in children: what it is, how to prevent it and how to treat it

Nebulization and nasal wash with lukewarm solution are great solutions to avoid sinusitis.

inusitis in children is one of the most common complaints in pediatric offices. But what is this disease that causes so much discomfort in families?

It is important to understand what happens to the body in order to be able to treat and prevent it. Different from what most people think, sinusitis in children is very different from sinusitis that affects adults.

In children, the main symptoms are fever, phlegm, runny nose, cough. Indications generally similar to those of the  cold , but which evolve into rhinosinusitis, with a lot of coughing and secretion. With these indications, the child needs to be taken to the pediatrician and will probably take antibiotics.

Another situation is when the child is almost cured of the flu, but does not stop coughing, especially at night. “When lying down, the secretion goes into the trachea causing a cough”, explains pediatrician Daniel Becker.

But then how to avoid it?

The pediatrician recommends nasal washing with lukewarm serum and nebulization to hydrate the secretion. “Everything that will avoid accumulating secretion will help. The phlegm or any secretion in our organism needs to be in flow. Anything that stagnates, infects”, he concludes.see more
